<body>It's not easy to stay at a B&amp;B with three people, so my mom, sister and I ended up in a basement room at the Centerboard Guest House.

We felt like we were staying in a cozy ship's cabin. There was a lot of wood and port hole windows. Mom and Kim fought over the window bunk. the bathroom was small, but functional.

In Nantucket most B&amp;B's aren't allowed to serve breakfast, which is a shame. There was a minimal continental breakfast, but I craved eggs. I'm used to getting to know the other folks at a B&amp;B over breakfast, but no one but the three of us bothered to eat the cold cereal and muffins.

Many things in Nantucket are regulated. For example, you have to use specific shingles, your gutters have to be wood (which must be a maintenance nightmare) and your color palette is limited.

Apparently one guy runs Town. He's limited competition by only renting to 2 ice cream shops, 2 bike rental companies, etc. Keeps the choices down and the prices high.

Another crazy rule is that B&amp;Bs can't serve a real breakfast. Hence the cold cereal...

The location of the guest house was perfect. Just far enough outside of town to be quiet, but not too far that you couldn't easily walk into town. Another plus was that perhaps the best restaurant in Nantucket, American Seasons, was right across the street. [See my review of American Seasons.]

The innkeeper was a very nice younger woman with an old Rhodisian Ridgeback dog. My sister was missing Murphy - her mutt - so she made friends with the dog. The innkeeper shared her knowledge of the island and it's history with us. A different perspective from Gail's - the operator of our island van tour.

The bike company delivers and picks up your bike rentals directly from the guest house - a great convenience.

The Guest House has a great front porch with comfy furniture - a great place to read a book, sip a glass of wine and watch the sun set. Also fun to watch the oversided sport utility vehicles navigate the narrow streets and the 5 way intersection right in front of the guest house.</body>
