1/2 day rock climb (0830 sharp meet to ~1300 return) - AUD$65.

Daniel "Earl" Earl is a nice enough fella. Has been in the area for quite a while and been rock climbing for a lot longer.

All gear was provided - harness, shoes, helmet. chalk not necessary.

The day went like this. Pick up from Halls Gap town at 0830 sharp. Earl was on time and fortunately so was the rest of the group. A track had just reopened after the fires. Getting there early meant that there wasn't anyone else there, Earl set up the ropes and we were away. We abseiled down then spent the next few hours climbing. We then walked up the cliff and back home. Earl, even though he hadn't been to this area for a while due to the fires he could still picture where the holds were, knew his way around the area and cared for the environment.

Note:

Although only a group of 6, it took an hour and a half to coax these people to abseil down at faster than a snail's pace. That was half our day gone. Admittedly, if you can't see the ground from the ledge until you hop into the harness, it's a little scary, but you're tied in and c'mon, isn't this why you're paying someone to take you out to do this?

I went as a single (not a good idea if you want to make the most of your climb...explained further), with a family of 4 and another single. My partner was negative and spent more time hanging, complaining and hardly getting off the ground than anything else. Fortunately Earl saw this, and swapped partners around soon enough so I actually got a climb.

In the future, if I wanted to the get the most out of a guided climb, i'd do it with a group of experienced climbers so it's more about climbing than waiting.
