<body>Dreams is an all-inclusive resort located just north of the town of Tulum. The grounds were pretty, the beach was satisfactory, and the staff was friendly. Well, all of them except for whoever stole my husband's wedding ring from our room when we were out for dinner (he had accidentally left it on the bathroom sink). We also had problems with our safe staying locked, and heard from other guests (honeymooners) that money had been stolen from their safes. The management had a very lacksidasical attitude about it.

The food and beverages were also satisfactory but not great--no authentic Mexican food to be found in any of the 5 restaurants. The Japanese restaurant was the best option, but not always open. The margaritas were heavily diluted (request &quot;mas tequila&quot; to get a buzz) and heavy on the sour. Their daquiris were actually better. Again most of the staff were friendly and often happy to accomodate special requests. But I didn't write home about the food and bevs.

The rooms were nice, but there are definitely two categories of rooms--old and new. We were in an older room at first, with a very hot walk to the beach and restaurants. I'm not one to complain about walking but the heat made it much worse than it had to be. So we upgraded to a suite in one of the new buildings with an ocean view. It was worth the extra money (though in general the lodging should have been less expensive). We were moved close to new construction of more beachfront suites, but noise was generally not very noticeable, as they stopped hammering by the time we were back from the beach.

Overall, the resort did not stand up to its 4-star rating. It would have done better if it weren't for the theft (and the lack of concern by the management when I reported the theft--they basically blamed me [saying that we requested turn-down service--which we did NOT], wrote my name in a ledger full of other reports, and that was it. No apologies whatsoever). There was a suspicious amount of housekeeping/service activity in general--kind of invasive. They would knock on our door at least 4 times before we left for breakfast, several more times upon our return, once or twice in the evenings, and if you were in the shower or otherwise indecent and couldn't answer the door, they would just come in. There were no &quot;do not disturb&quot; signs to solve the problem. Then when we did request something for our room (such as water, there could never be enough bottled water), it would take at least an hour for a response. For all the housekeeping and service calls, one would expect a never-ending supply of water and other beverages. Very weird.

If you want to have a good time in Tulum, experience some authentic food and people, leave the resort and go into town. And definitely choose a different hotel.</body>
