Batu Belah Review
Fresh Seafood Right on the North Shore
From Snorkel & Lunch Chez Colin in Tulamben, Indonesia on Jul 30 '07

I had the grilled fresh fish with steamed veggies and home fries. I think that's all I ever order there, although I might have had the nasi goreng one time.
Today, the fish was Barracuda (always a little sad to have to eat one of those 'puppy dogs of the reef') but I gotta say it was excellent. Menu lists three options for the grilled fish (sweet-sour,garlic & butter, or tomato and onion) but I asked for plain grilled with a couple of wedges of juruk nipis, the local lime.
No problemo from the chef, who made me a perfectly cooked (still just a tad soft inside) couple of hunks of this delightfully light flavored fish, with three wedges of the juiciest nipis EVER. The potatoes were mind blowingly free of grease and full of flavor (as Indonesian potatoes often are). Only drawback were the boiled veggies (winter melon, chinese cabbage, carrot, bean and cauliflower) which seemed to have been sprinkled with some kind of tangy seasoning salt (yuck).
My carrot juice was freshly made, but watered down, a no-no for us juice fanatics.
Service lovely, prompt, none of the usual "how long you stay Bali?"
Unbeatable breeze and view.
