A for effort

From Rehoboth in Rehoboth Beach, United States on Jul 09 '05

This was a nice beach-town restaurant that was maybe trying just a little too hard.

The service was the best thing about the place. The hostess was very friendly and made us feel comfortable and welcome. Our waiter was lovely, very knowledgeable, and did a good job anticipating our requests. When we mentioned to him we were from New York, he told us the chef/owner was from there, too. As we were finishing our meal, the chef came out to chat with us.

A for effort

It makes sense the chef was from New York, as the food was maybe a bit too big for its britches and slightly out of place in sleepy Rehoboth. Everything tasted good, but would have been better with simpler preparations and more conventional presentations. Although I have to admit the cocktail menu benefited from the hint of Manhattan, with lots of interesting and original mixes. I was inspired to create my own: a cosmo made with blood orange vodka.
