One Night Stay--Don't Do It

For our first night, being in Amsterdam for the first time, we wanted to be right smack in the middle of everything.  This hotel is just that, located a couple of blocks away from Leidseplein square and around all the major shopping districts.

We rented a double standard room with queen bed.  The room was adequate, not very spacious but comfortable.  I would recommend a high floor with a canal view.  You should note there are many locals that hang out on the streets in and around this area and when they get to singing, they can get pretty loud.  The breakfast was very good, lots of selections and everything was fresh.

However, in contrast to the predominately friendly Dutch, we found the hotel staff not that great to deal with.  It's just that they were extremely rude in dealing with us and not very helpful with any of our inquiries.  Maybe it was because we were staying for only one night or whether my question of wireless internet access availability irritated them (which they do offer for a fee), we were not sure.  In the interest of fairness, the elderly lady working the breakfast was actually very friendly and helpful.

I would not recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Amsterdam.  There are many comparably priced hotels to choose from that will offer a more friendly environment.  We stayed at this hotel as part of a package from EuropeanDestinations.com (which I highly recommend for any multi-city vacation to Europe).  They offer air/hotel packages that can be easily customized to your needs.  The only requirement is that you must have a 2 nights stay at one hotel on one leg of your trip.  In our case, we flew into Amsterdam spent one night here, and will be flying home from Venice, with our minimum 2 nights stay in the Venice portion.  Just price out the airfare separately with additional hotel costs and you will see the significant savings that EuropeanDestinations.com offers.
