We stayed at Hotel Dos Lunas at the beginning of our travels in
Guatemala and then again before heading to El Salvador. We were not the
easiest of guests as we needed accommodations for two one night, a set
of parents for two nights and then another set of parents for another
night, all with airport pick-ups and drop-offs woven in. Thankfully,
the airport is a mere five-minute drive away from the hotel. The staff were extremely
accommodating of our comings and goings.

The first room we stayed
in was super stuffy and we had trouble sleeping because of a barking
dog in the courtyard, but the second room (upstairs) was much more
comfortable. The place was more like a bed and breakfast or hostel than
an impersonal hotel, with common areas in which to gather and share
stories with other guests. Breakfast of eggs, toast, and fruit in the
morning was a nice touch. Rooms and bedding were clean, though a bit
outdated. We managed just fine with the shared bathrooms.

Security at the hotel is good. Kind of like a walled in fortress located on a residential street.

We
strolled the residential neighborhood comfortably despite the presence
of armed guards here and there. Found a small park, and a neighborhood
grocery that served up some nice tamales.

Public transportation was nearby and cheap. We caught a bus almost across the street from the Hotel Dos Lunas for a aprx. 35 minute ride downtown to the Mercado Central.
On one of the mornings at Dos Lunas, we thought that it was 4:45AM, but really it was 5:45AM and the hotel's
driver Victor roused us from bed and let us know we had better go to
the airport. We were due to meet Terry and Roland... How wonderfully considerate of Victor to be punctual and on
top of things for us; absolutely wonderful staff at the Dos Lunas in
Guatemala City.
