We’re not generally B&B-type people, but we loved the White Porch Inn. We recently spent three nights at this beautiful bed and breakfast in Provincetown and would have gladly stayed longer, if only our vacation could have been extended.

The Inn looks like it was designed from the pages of the Restoration Hardware catalog: it’s has clean lines and relaxing, comfortable furniture that you would have in your own home. It’s tasteful without being stuffy and charming without being fussy.

We appreciated the well thought-out touches in our room (Race Point Light) – from the huge flat-screen TV to the fireplace at eye level while lying in bed and modern Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom – and found the small-ish space so well-designed that we barely noticed we had less room that we’re used to in larger hotels. We did wish that our room had black-out curtains to block out the early morning sunshine that woke us up too early each day, but that’s a minor quibble for a room and a vacation experience that was simply wonderful.

The design of the White Porch Inn is one key to its success, but the real secret is the innkeepers themselves: the owners are friendly and welcoming. We immediately felt right at home. They offered tips on dining and shows, sights, local bike rentals and spas without being obtrusive and they were helpful without getting in the way of their guests having a good time.

When we talk about our vacations and the places we’ve stayed, we’re always amazed by friends who tell us “it’s just a place to sleep.” The White Porch Inn is the kind of place that makes you understand why that isn’t always true. We really enjoyed talking with other guests over breakfast and then coming back to the Inn at the end of day for drinks and more conversation outside on the porch.

We could write more, but our recommendation is that you go to Provincetown and experience the White Porch Inn for yourself. Just don’t go during our next visit – we want to be able to make reservations for our return!
