Yesterday we started out hopping a bus with our new friend Jerry. Two nights ago we were out dancing and a guy asked Desaree where she was from. Naturally he replied, 'San Antonio'. Jerry was a permanent addition from that point on. He's barely 21, but traveling for 3 months on his own (kuddos).

We arrived at the port and waited for our boat to arrive. Picture Pirates of the Carribean and you'll have a pretty good idea of what our shipped looked like. While waiting for THE ADONIS, we picked up another 'stray', Alex from New Zealand. He is most definately our favorite by far and we all decided we wouldl ike to adopt him, put him in our pocket, and take him home to Texas.

So the day was spent touring the smaller islands of Santorini, aka The Caldera. Millions of years ago theisland was blown apart by a massive volcano explosion (still active today) and it changed the shape of the island to look more like a crescent moon with dotted islands surrounding it.

Picked up a lava rock after visiting the volcanoe, hopped back on the ship and made our way to Tharissa, another small island with only 300 people! The captain, Manilo, asked us to join him for lunch. He kept saying TAPAS, TAPAS! So we thought we were going for some traditional Spanish food. But in Greek, TAPAS, means free. At the end of the meal we payed NOTHING. And this meal, let me tell you, was nothing short of a feast. I had the most amazing sea food this side of the Agean Sea. I tried ocotpus and LOVED it...calamari, shrimp, clams, crab, and scallops. I am sure the ambiance added to the taste. I mean we WERE sitting with a Greetian captain, on a beautiful island, breeze blowing and the water not 10 feet away.

We really did try to pay (not wanting to be bratty American girls) but he refused. Jerry had stayed back on the ship to nap. Boy did he miss out!

The last stop, after lunch was Oia, (EE-AH). Thefurthest town on the island and the BEST place to watch the sunset. Which is exactly what we did. We wiated for two hours just to get the best spot, but it was so worth it. Des, Hilary, Traci, Jerry, Alex, Oren, Micah, Ben, and myself all sat on the rooftop of a traditional Greek house watching the sun slowly set on the Agean Sea. In a word, breathtaking.

That evening was traveled back to THE BEST ("Hello My Beatiful Friends!"- Vasillis) and spent the night drinking Ouzo (not too much, I hope) and dancing under the stars. The weather in the evenings is warm and breezy. The sand here is BLACK because of the volcano erruption years ago. This makes the beaches really hot so believe it or not we have spent a little more time by the AMAZING pool. I know, I know! Come to Greece and go to the pool? But we will visit the hedonistic beaches in Ios today and Mykonos in a few days. We'll have plenty of beach time soon enough.

I have taken to writing in this blog rather than keeping a paper/pencil diary. So for those of you who have grown tired of reading this, I apologize. Truthfully it's more for me than anyone else. I appreciate those who have stuck with me. I did indeed take the photo of the sunset. Art Eye, Melissa!

We are now off to Ios this morning ( a 4 hour ferry ride). We'll spend 2 nights and one full day before heading off to Mykonos. Everything I've read on Ios give me the impression of Cancum but only in Greece. Honestly not too excited about this considering the average age of a person visiting Cancun is 21 or so. We are definately the older travelers but it's still be a good time had by all.

For now...
