We read about this event while in Kuta and it caught our imagination. We decided it would be worth checking out and a good opportunity to visit the west coast of Bali. The official tickets were $59 including a VVIP pass (excellent seats), dinner, tshirt and a sarong but we thought that was a bit steep. So instead, we hired a driver for the day and bought an individual ticket (without the extras) when we got there (70k each). En route, we visited a Monkey Temple Sanctuary and a Royal Palace. Feeding the monkeys was alot of fun and we got some nice photos (to be uploaded). It was also nice to stroll around the Royal grounds. Visiting these also broke up the journey to Tanah Lot - which is famous for its temple. During low-tide it is accesible by foot, but by high-tide the temple which is on top of a 'boulder' (for use of a better word) is surrounded by the sea. For the first time in history (a Guiness World record) over 5000 Kecak dancers would be performing in front of the temple.

The event itself was worth seeing, although our overall view of the dancers was a bit disappointing. The lighting around them could have been alot better. The photos of the dancers are a bit of a let down - you needed a SLR with a kick-ass lens to get some nice shots. Overall, it was an enjoyable day-trip immersing ourselves in the heritage and culture of Bali.
