361869 5 Location 448983 <p>In planning any new leg of our trip we usually refer to the travellers bible: Lonely Planet.&nbsp; It was through this book (Southeast Asia on a Shoestring) that we discovered Flashbacks.&nbsp; It had by far the best writeup of all the guesthouses we'd read about, plus it has it's own website, which is always a plus (<a href="/go?l=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flashbacks-chb.com%2Findex.html&tracking=external" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.flashbacks-chb.com/index.html</a>).&nbsp;</p><p>We loved it from the first second.&nbsp; We loved everything about it.&nbsp; Especially the people.&nbsp; Unfortunately, it has resulted in us comparing every other place we stay to it.&nbsp;</p><p>First of all, the rooms:&nbsp; Very clean and neat.&nbsp; Beyond that, they're serviced every day!&nbsp; We stayed in one of the rooms which shared a bathroom with the adjoining room, but this didn't cause us any grief.&nbsp; If we would have stayed in the bungalows, we would have had our very own bathroom.&nbsp; Oh well.&nbsp;</p><p>Secondly, the breakfast:&nbsp; A continental breakfast is included with the rooms and bungalows.&nbsp; It consisted of fresh fruit, toast with jam/honey/vegemite (yuck), and coffee or tea.&nbsp; We never felt that it wasn't enough.&nbsp; The area that breakfast is served is very comfortable and welcoming, and there's always good conversation to be had around the table.</p><p>Thirdly, the grounds:&nbsp; Beautiful with lots of little touches.&nbsp; The pool (saltwater)&nbsp;was especially a treat, even moreso considering that it was literally about 5 steps from our room door.&nbsp; On any given day we may have gone for a dip around 5 times, including just as we woke up to just as we were about to go to bed.</p><p>Fourthly, the location:&nbsp; You're located right in the middle of Sanur.&nbsp; Excellent restaurants are literally just a few doors away.&nbsp; The beach is practically just across the street as well&nbsp; You have to contend with all the hawkers on the street, but you'd have to do that anywhere.&nbsp;</p><p>Finally, the people:&nbsp; We loved everyone, staff and guests alike.&nbsp; The Aussie owners Peter and Jan are tremendous.&nbsp; Peter is very laid back while Jan is self proclaimed reincarnated Janis Joplin.&nbsp; One day&nbsp;a group of us were just lazing by the pool with Jan chatting on a&nbsp; cordless phone.&nbsp; The next thing we hear is Jan screaming cause a few fire ants started to crawl&nbsp;on her legs.&nbsp; Two seconds later, Jan is in the pool fully dressed to get away from them.&nbsp; All&nbsp;of the staff were great as well.&nbsp; And they are the friendliest people too.&nbsp; Nothing was too much to ask for, plus they would&nbsp;be so happy to hear&nbsp;you speak in Bahasa, the native language.</p><p>Overall, we can't say enough nice things about Flashbacks!</p> 2006-06-23T19:29:53-07:00 1216348321 2006-06-05T17:00:00-07:00 0 -9223372036854775792 152170 1650484 361869 0 217773 0.111128246868668 2006-05-29T17:00:00-07:00 Published 100.0 2006-06-23T19:50:54-07:00 83577 0
