You can walk across Brooklyn Bridge on a separate path on the deck above the roadway. At one time this was a roadbed for street cars, and it's now used exclusively by pedestrians and bicyclers. Keep to the right as you go across from City Hall. it's free. You'll get your exercise, and a magnificent view of Manhattan.
