Today, we rented Enduro motorbikes (250cc) and drove up into the mountains. The scenery was breath-taking as we were up so high (5000 feet above sea-level) we were among the clouds. There's alot of sights to see in Chiang Mai but it wasn't long before we were off the beaten track and quite frankly on 'roads' you'd find it hard to walk up or down. Mud paths full of jagged rocks with pot holes often extremely slippy and what I would consider hazardous. This didn't stop my designated driver, the mad Welsh Stallion himself (currently only wearing one contact lens) from tearing up and down them at speed. I was shitting myself the whole time, thinking why the hell did I let him convince me to do this :o)

We were a few hours into our adventure when in the middle of no-where kev's bike broke down. We managed to get it as far downhill as we could and fortunately (and I cannot emphasise that word enough) we came upon a man (and wife with two enfants) and his 4WD. Why they were there I've no idea! We asked him was he going into town and he offered to bring us back. Thank God! So we managed to strap the bike into the back of it and myself and Kev got in with it (while Matt went on the other bike) down the rest of the dirt track. An uncomfortable ride I tell you - we were still a few km's from the main road. Wack, wack, our bodies and asses taking a pounding hoping the bike wasn't going to fall onto us [again]. Along the way we saw alot of Thai army dudes kitted fully out in the bushes. A little scary.

Anyway, after a bit of journey we finally made it back to the bike shop. The owner was definitely not pleased as we pulled up. Myself and Kev were already annoyed so lets just say he didn't help things when he kept repeating "why didn't you ring me?". We're like shouting at him we don't have a phone and we're up in the middle of the bloody mountains. How the hell are we going to give you directions when 1. your English sucks and 2. we hadn't a bloody clue where we were - haha. In the end, we got our passports back and went to the nearest restaurant to devour some food. We hadn't eaten since breakfast.

So, did I enjoy myself? Probably for the first two hours. After that, it just seemed relentless - to me anyway..
