<body>If you want to stay in Old Mazatlan and have easy access to great beaches, restaurants, and public transportation, Hotel la Siesta is a wonderful choice. Its reasonably priced, even during busy holidays, and the people that work there are very helpful and friendly. Ocean view rooms cost a little bit more, so we decided to save money by getting an indoor room, a room that has a window overlooking a pretty courtyard. Next time I would pay extra for a room with a balcony and an ocean view, especially since the Malecon (or Avenue de Mar, the boulevard that travels down the coast of Mazatlan) is a great place to people watch.

Although the hotel is simple in comparison to the mega resorts in the newer part of town (Golden Zone), we enjoyed the free internet, clean rooms, easy access to public transportation. The beach across the street is beautiful, and strolling down the Malecon at night is popular with tourists and locals. You may even see people gathering to watch cliff divers falling into the sea.

Nearby plazas are filled with people playing music and displaying art, and at night, people dress up to eat dinner and listen to live music at more upscale restaurants. During the day I would get lost in the small streets and wander into little shops and cafes, it was almost like being in a little European town.

This is not a fancy hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but the rooms are clean and affordable, the setting is beautiful, and there is always something exciting happening nearby.

Make sure you call ahead the hotel books fast during holidays, celebrations and festivals.</body>
