The weekend started out in a great way, with pizza! Bogar and I went into the historic area, down a less traveled road, to find in front of us an Italian restaurant. I had a pizza, with garlic bread and soda. The price was pretty reasonable considering it was a high quality restaurant.
I was on my own early on Saturday because Bogar was at work, and there was no one else to hang out with at that point. Saturday morning I went by myself to the El Ejido Park to look at the art fair they there every Saturday. I bought a magnet with an original painting on it by an Ecuadorian artist.
After I was done at the art fair, I went to the historic area to the Plaza 24 de Mayo to see a comic performance. It was pretty funny, but it was in Spanish.
For supper I met up with a Vanessa, a student at my spanish school. She is from England. We went to this Mexican restaurant in Gringolandia and half way through dinner Bogar met up with us. After dinner, we went to this place called Tomate, and we had a dacquiri there. The dacquiris were very cheap. They were only about $1.25 a piece, and they were pretty good!
We finished the night with a theater performance in the teatro sucre. It was actually a theater group from the U.S. that spoke a combination of English and Spanish. It really didn't matter what language they spoke because they said very little during the entire performance. I can sum up the performance in one word "wierd." I don't think I can fully describe in words what the actors did. They did lots of wierd movements with their arms, legs, faces....really with all parts of the body! They made some of the most absurd sounds I have ever heard. I assumed that there was suppose to be symbolism in the performance, but I think barely anymore got it.
Sunday I was a tourist with Vanessa in the historic center. We started out at the $1.25 breakfast place, which of course was satisfying. We ended up going to the bank museum first which displayed all of the different types of money they had throughout the centuries. Then we went to the Santo Domingo church and went inside of the museum which had a lot of beautiful religious artwork. We were feeling a little bit hungry so we went to a bread store to get lunch but all they had was cheese sandwiches. So we decided to just have dessert instead, which was a chocolate cake with a strawberry! The last museum we saw that day was a museum of the mansion of a rich lady in Ecuador. The museum was very detailed and decorated very beautifully.
I was pretty sad that Bogar had to work during the weekend, but it helped that he didn't have to work on Monday. I wanted to spend time with him on Monday, so I didn't take Spanish classes that day. We spent some time in Gringolandia going into various travel agencies to find a Galapagos package. Then we went to Bogar's University so that he could talk with a professor. Lastly, we went to the mall so that I could buy some groceries.
Tuesday I was to a routine taking Spanish classes. In the afternoon I went with Vanessa to see the Pancello, which is a statue of the virgin on a mountain. We had to take a taxi there because it is dangerous to walk up and down that mountain. I know that from experience because last year when I went with Bogar to the monument, he didn't want to pay extra for a taxi back down the mountain, so we walked down instead. I could just sense that making the journey down the mountain was a bad idea. So this time I was not going to make the same mistake. We ended up paying $5.50 for a round-trip taxi that waited 10 minute while we enjoyed the scenery. At night, we had a special dinner at the Spanish school with the students and teachers. I ate cheese and potato pancakes, eggs, and salad.
I have been sick the past few days with a cold that has made me feel a little weak and ill. Bogar just developed a cold within the past day, so we will not plan anything to do in the next day, in hopes that we will feel better this weekend.
