My friend Ruth from netball in Dublin was getting married to her irish man in Queenscliff, on the Bellarine Peninsula on the bay of Port Philip. Dave was leaving for LA that morning, so we picked up our hire car and drove him out to the airport. However, when we got there, the queue to check in was miles long. Muppets that we are, we stayed to wave Dave off properly. After just over 3 months with us, Dave was on the last leg of his journey.
Anyway, we ended up leaving late for Queenscliff. As i couldn't get us accomodation due to a Joe Cocker concert, a 6-man tent was our humble abode! The wedding started at 4pm. We arrived at the campsite at 3.15pm and had to assemble the tent and shower and get dolled up. Needless to say, it was one hell of a rush and we got to the service bang no 4pm with 1/2 my make-up on!
The wedding was set in a park, where 100 guests sweated in the baking heat. Rob had no formal attire to wear so ended up wearing jeans! After a short service, we had a drink whilst waiting for the reception. This gave me time to catch up Tara, Kate, Ash and Sarah, other netball friends of mine.
The reception started at 6pm and after a lovely dinner, the night took its traditional role of speeches, drinking and dancing. The drink was free all night so needless to say some people became very intoxicated and had to be put to bed (not mentioning any names!)
We were woken at 7.15am the next morning, annoyed by some guy asking us to move our car! The cheek of it! The heads on us didn't help. I can't believe i actually gave him the keys to move the car himself! How stupid was that?!! ok don't answer that! I wasn't really with it! He didn't steal the car anyway, thank god!
After a big hearty breakfast to try and ease our throbbing heads, we decided to get the ferry across Port Philip Bay to Sorrento and drive back to Melbourne via the Mornington Peninsula. The ferry was one of those car carriers where the dorr comes up. It took about 40 minutes to cross the bay. We docked in Sorrento, had a little look around (it's a 1 street town) and set off along the coastal road stopping off at little towns along the way, for coffee and a dip in the sea (it was 33 degrees that day)! The coastline was beautiful.
