After a windy and crazy road trip we finally found Laguna Stables near Surin Beach, a small town called Bang Thao. The staff were very friendly and their 30 horses seemed well trained (what the hell do I know?) After begging for a helmet and reiterating that I know nothing about the beautiful creature, they let me choose the tall or the really tall one.  I almost belly flopped trying to scamper up "Costa" and finally atop the monster I never felt so unbalanced in my life.  I tried to smile for the photo and lift my nose a bit higher than usual.  We were off...down the sidewalks and road to the beach.  it took me a while to get the feel of letting myself get jarred and correct placement of everything, I mean everything.  The flip flops may not have been the best choice for the horse ride but for the motorbike ride there it sure was.  I have not worn shoes since I got here.

Let me rewind a bit here; I have not ridden a horse in probably 10 years and then it was a donkey looking thing anyway.  This was surely no ass.  Costa was a gorgeous horse that kept an eye on me when I was not tugging on the reins.

After we got to the beach, the trainers walked ahead and let us control our beasts...George's horse wanted to run and mine wanted to dunk me in the surf that we were trotting through.  I kept wondering which way to bail if the horse felt like standing on its hind legs...After 30 mins though we were laughing and finally fully upright on our chauffeurs on all 4.

The trainers were very friendly and the beach crowd moved out of our way...naked kids scrambling up the sandy beach to get out of the way of the hooves.

The sunset was amazing and before we knew it(my ass sure did) we were back at the stables talking to the caretakers.  It wa a great trip and worth any heat stroke we endured to get there.

The ride home was not as much fun and we were both happy to see the Muay Thai Camp!

I almost slept 12 hours.

Horses are like children I think.  Very expensive and great to have for the day...and return in a few hours.
