Boddhi Tree Aram was a huge disappointment for us. Although we arrived without reservation, we decided to stay, based on all the good reviews we had read. We paid a whopping 83 USD, and were at first happy with the room. Until we had to experience the terrible stench in the bathroom. We noticed garbage on the roof below, just down from the open window ot the bathroom, which cannot be closed. As we told the staff and came back later, they pointed out the cover of the water outlet had been removed, and the problem should be solved. As I mentioned the garbage outside, I was patronized and told that no, it wasn't the garbage. As if this was a professional way of addressing such an issue, moreover with a customer (). Unfortunately, although most of the stench disappeared after many () hours, there was still something around, and knowing about the garbage didn't help. In the morning, we looked forward to having breakfast, and all four tables were occupied. Again, apologies and such, but that was just enough. For this price you can get a room at the Cambodiana, with a swimming pool and all the amenities. All in all stench is a problem nowadays in Phnom Penh, on the Sisowath Quai and around the King Palace, but the last we expected was to find it in such a place. We were not offered any refund for this terrible experience, and I am sure the owner will go on happily taking customers for granted, as the place seems to be quite occupied. I would just stay away from these boutique places, as there are no big incentives for them to improve, and go back to a bigger place, even if not so cozy, but without nasty surprises. No haircovers, no dryer in the room.
