I got on the bus to phnom penh at 12 having had no sleep and felt a little worse the wear from the night before, actually thats a lie i felt like absolute shit. I got on the bus hoping that the 6 hour bus ride would be a great opportunity to get some sleep. The bus driver and assistant had other ideas though and on came the tv playing cambodian kareoke. It realy is the worst thing you have ever seen. All the videos are the same with a man serenading a woman and then she or he dies, the other one cries and thats it really. A really happy uplifting thing to watch. Not only that though it all sounds the same and by the same i mean shit. Still not to worry surely they could only play this for a while before sticking a film on or something. I couldnt be more wrong it played for the whole 6 hours, they absolutely love it out here, they even have a kareoke button on the tv remotes. It was like slowly being tortured especially with the hangover i had. They really could use it as a torturing technique because if i was in the army and captured by the enemy i would tell them anything after 6 hours of this shit just to get them to turn it off. It got ridiculous as every time one cd ended out popped another one. Just to show you how popular it is the last one we watched was ''kareoke special- volume 112'', volume 112? what the fuck how many volumes are there?. The funniest video was of this really old guy, i dont know how he could even walk, and he was surrounded by around 15 girls dancing and he was playing a flute and then singing the chorus. It was awful but hilarious when he gave the girl the flute to hold and then did some weird dance then the flute started playing on the song and he didnt even have it the girl did? How ropey is that, how can they watch this stuff?
Anyway after 6 hours of toture we arrived in phnom penh and booked into a hotel and had a much needed relax. We got take away fish and chips delivered to our room, smoked and watched happy gilmore and the waterboy and laughed loads. Got a good nights sleep and got up at 6am to get the bus to the beaches in southern cambodia
