We had the weekend in Penang.  There were a lot of things we tried to do but with only moderate success.  After we arrived we went to the botanical gardens and then to the funicular which goes to the top of Penang hill.  It was such a long ride to the top that we arrived after it had gotten dark, although the night views were still lovely.  When we returned to the bottom, we discovered that transportation was not waiting for us.  We ended up walking down the street and miraculously running across a cab driver who was just returning home.  She was kind enough to take us back to our hotel.

On Saturday we attempted to take the ferry to Langkawi to have a day at the beach.  We booked it across town (definitely should have taken a taxi) and arrived a couple of minutes late to the ferry.  But we might have still made it except we got there and they told us that ferry tickets were sold out for the day. Doh!  We tried Batu Ferringhi beach instead, but it wasn't very nice.

Sunday was the best of our days in Penang.  We had a nice brunch, walked along the waterfront area to see the cemetary (which I loved), China town, and the old fort.  Then we headed back to the hotel and left for the airport, stopping at Kek Lok Si temple along the way.  The temple was definitely a must-see.  And our taxi driver showed us around - he was hilarious.
