The hotel we chose for our Christmas was perfect. Located in the main plaza overlooking the Pantheon in the 5eme arrondissement, it was within walking distance to some of my favorite areas in Paris- Jardin du Luxembourg, St Germain, Quartier Latin, etc. I would have thought that it had a higher rating than 3 stars, because the interior lobby was elegant and decorated for Christmas in silver and purple (my camera Barney would have loved it had I taken pictures of the lobby.) The reception was courteous and helpful, and there was a winding staircase that led to all the rooms, but we preferred the elevator- which is not as common as you may hope. Our room was not large, but I have never stayed in a hotel room in Paris that was any larger- mainly because you would have to be rich to do so- but the bathroom was fantastic and so was the décor. It had padded cloth on the walls in a pattern displaying various historical figures, framed in white crown molding with an accented ceiling. There were closets tucked away that blended with the rest of the design and to my pleasure the TV- a real TV- was behind the doors of one of the closets. I had been without TV for so long I scarcely remembered what is was. Overall the room was clean, warm, comfortable, and lovely, very stereotypical Parisian. My only annoyance is that our room had come with free breakfast, and the receptionist who checked us in said we had to pay for breakfast. Because I didn’t book the room I didn’t realize it was free, so we did not get to partake. But the rest was fantastic.
