No travel journal is complete unless I include photos of cats I encountered ( .. meet is the wrong word) .. and a rant from me. In this case the rant deals with signs on the fabulous hotel in Rue Rivoli (once called Intercontinental Paris .. now Westin Paris). Over 3 years ago it was taken over by the Starwood Westin Hotel Group and is now known as the Westin Paris. My rant is that after 3 years they still have a temporary looking cheap and nasty brushed aluminum sign (Westin Paris). Does this mean they do not plan to stay there very long. Even my local kebab shop would not be satisfied with the downmarket sign screwed to the fascia near the corner at rue Ravioli. This American chain should take far more cognizance of the quality of the establishment they are operating ; they are certainly lowering the tone of this grand area.

I saw these cats in the gardens of the Observatory (closed until afternoon so I could not get inside). The black and white cat seemed domestic ( was wearing a collar) and clearly 'outside' ... the white one was inside this protected space and looking as smug as only a cat can be.
