The impressive Mayan ruins at Palenque and cool waterfall bathing saved the day after the horrors of battling roaches in town.

it seems these past weeks have been a
battle against the infernal cockroaches at every turn!
Today one fell off the luggage rack of a bus onto my
lap and a few days back at about 3am Emma jumped as
though she had a poker up her backside when she
found one crawling across her in bed! Our latest defense
is to demand rooms without bathrooms but I fear we may
have to resign ourselves to turning a blind eye (not
so easy when they launch themselves off the pavement
at you as one did in Palenque Mexico a couple of
weeks ago!)

Emma Says:

San Cristobel was a nice place and not much more. After two nights of everything being lovely and nice we decided we had had enough of nice and headed to Palenque . The reason people go to Palenque is to visit the ruins. We went to Palenque to visit the ruins, they were cool as you could walk all over then and help erode them so that generations to come will only be able to see a couple of pebbles on the lawn. My highlight of this trip was being able to hear Howler Monkeys calling to each other in the Jungle next to the ruins. I really wanted to see then but they respect the history of the place an do not want to add to its destruction by climbing on them like we were. In Palenque town we stayed in our first slightly dodgy accommodation, it was a little grubby and came with free cockroaches. Anyone who was lucky enough to hear about my travels in Oz will know that I don’t mix well with these particular insects, they freak the poo out of me and have me jumping on the bed screaming like a girl. I was quite cool with the cockroach on the first night, I just opened the door and told it to get out. On the second night I discovered a whole family, these kept me awake worrying about them crawling on me in the night.
