After Monument Valley, we stopped off in Vegas where we stayed at the Excalibur hotel and I won $20 and then lost it again the next morning. But I meant some crazy gambling hags in the process so that was fun. Matt's number 34 finally came up too - shame I lost it all again on 9 and 27 (sorry Matt)!
I also rode the legendary 'New York, New York' rollercoaster which costs eight quid but is well worth it. It climbs up the side of the hotel and gives a great view of Vegas before plunging you to near death and then upside down a few times. Nice!
Back in Socal,I spent some downtime at Steve's which mainly involved coughing and sneezing - travelling has certainly taken it's toll on the body. I thought I was immune to every germ in the world having taught in an East London primary school, but apparently not!!
On Thursday I experienced my first ever 'Thanksgiving'. We went over to Steve's family friends and had a big Turkey meal. It was a completely different world for me, their house was huge and beautiful with a pool and lots of colourful plants everywhere. Their TV room was something else - a 6 ft long TV and surround sound! A 14" portable will never be the same again. Among the guests was an NBA Basketball team manager who was so loaded that he confessed to having only ever cooked twice in his life! The family's youngest son Michael was also there, back from NY for the weekend. He was an interesting guy who once ran in the Olympics! Along with Steve and his parents, Kathy - our hostess, and Carleton and Nicole - her children, it was certainly an eclectic mix of people.
Michael beat myself and steve's dad at pool - I spectacularly potted the black mid-game (what a shot!) possibly spurred on by a semi-debate about Muslims, terrorists and 9/11! I must stop doing that...
Not sure I'll be in a rush to cook my own pumpkin pie, but then I'm not normally in a rush to ever cook anything.
