Today we started out at 10am and headed from Walnut Creek (near San Francisco) to Ontario (near LA). The drive was about 400 miles and took about 6 hours. The PSP (play station portable) entertained Billy for a little while (as I’d put some Cartoon Network clips on it he could watch TV as well as play games), however, after a while he wanted to play some other games, such as Eye Spy. I don’t think I’ve ever played Eye Spy before with so many changing rules…all geared towards us losing and Billy winning. I have to say, the drive from San Francisco to LA is one of the most boring drives I’ve ever done. It makes the Hume Hwy look like a theme park. I spent the majority of the time trying to negotiate in an out of traffic at 85 miles an hour.

We arrived at our hotel (Marriot Ontario) and checked in. There was a wedding rehearsal near the foyer which was neat.

It was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius) so Billy headed straight for the pool. He spent a good 90 minutes swimming before coming inside.

Our day was very short because of the driving time, we had a baby sitter arrive (Natasha) who was very nice and looked after Billy for the evening.

We headed out about 6pm and went to Rancho Cocamunga for dinner. We ate at a nice Italian place in Victoria Gardens and it was terrific. Deciding to avoid Cinderella we didn’t head off to the concert until about 8pm. We arrived at the Hyundai Pavilion in San Bernardino about 20 minutes before their set ended and hung around the snack area pointing out the plastic and bad beards that were walking past. After kicking some people out of our seats, we had third row seats from the stage, and Poison was awesome. They seemed to have a lot more energy tonight and although it was essentially the same set, it was a lot of fun and the packed pavilion rocked.

Sorry for such a short entry today, but we lost so many hours traveling…such is life!

Tool of the Day

Security at the concert – After one of them had kicked people out of our seats, a second security guy came up and wanted to know why we didn’t have wrist bands…we said…what wrist bands we just got here?? We had to go and collect wrist bands from another security guy off to the side of the stage…okay…he checked my tickets carefully for about 2 minutes, drilling me with questions like who punched your ticket? I thought he said who bought your ticket and I said I did…he said, well if you punched your ticket we have a problem…yeah I put my finger through it…sheesh…what a moron. Anyway, finally he caved, spent five minutes finding the damn wrist bands, and then we went back to our seats...and of course stood up and moved closer towards the stage the longer the concert went on.

Next time you're in California, take the coastal Route 1; it's very windy and takes longer than driving the inland highways but MUCH prettier with lots of classic California coastline. I drove it from San Francisco down to Santa Cruz and it was stunning, and I understand the great views continue all the way down to LA.
