Again, I wrote a whole load about the island before it deleted itself!! I think this site sucks sometimes!!!!
Anyway, the island was great fun, a real Getting back to nature experience. the first night was spent on the volcan Concepcion side of the island. I travelled with Philipp and Amit (the first other indian I have met on this trip - from Texas). On the second day Philipp and I headed off to the Volcan Maderas side and checked into an ecological farm hostel that was recommended to us by Amit. Here, all, from the rooms, to the kitchen, to the showers and loo was natural and ecologically made.....I will leave the rest to your imagination!!!!
But it was a really good experience staying here with such tranquility......plus the fruits that were grown there were free!!!
The island does not have many vehicles and has nonexistent roads. It is made up of the 2 volcanoes and the isthmus that connects it. Many rice, beans and banana plantations. And it's so safe that it doesn't need a police force!!! There are some buses, however that brave the roads, since one cant walk from one end of the island to the other.
On Wed 16th, we moved to the more touristy place on the island. Here I spent most of my afternoon reading on the hammock (it was raining), before meeting up with Amit and his friend for dinner and a few drinks.
The only disappointing thing about the island was that the weather wasn't too good and therefore I could not climb the volcano that I intended to climb. However, I did many hikes and chilled by the lake and relaxed instead!!
Thu 17th - checked out of the hostel and headed to San Juan del Sur.
