Balcaldine Castle is an amazing place to stay, there are only two rooms in this castle(well three rooms if needed) this makes the experince of staying in this castle all the more memorable.  We managed to get  a last minute cancelation on set off that day, however we did get lost a few time and ended up in Fort William when ment to be in the Oban road!  But the owners of the castle were more than helpful giving us directions three or four time lol.  When we eventually arrived the castle had exceeded our expections.  As soon as we stepped out the car we were greeted by the estates manager.  She then kindly showed us around the castle which was totally magnificent.  We entering the castle through the orginal door/gate and up the sprial staircase up to the first floor of this 16th century which is home of the campbells of barcaldine.  She then took us into the main dinning which had a huge fire place, this room was only used if there was a wedding etc, this was also the room where the hidden staircase was located which led up to barcaldine room.  She then took us through to the Lairds Parlour sitting room which an open fire and televison and a just a place for guest to relax.  We then continued back up the spiral staircase to the second floor this was where the rooms were.  There are three rooms in the castle the argyll room, breadalbane room and the balcaldine room.  As i I said previously the argyll room isn't mainly beacuase it hasn't got an en-suite but theere is the myth that this room is haunted.  There is also an artile outside the argyll room which tells you how one night a guest was sitting in the laird's parlour relaxing when he was interupted by the sound of music....  He went to investigate and followed the sound of the music of the music all the way up the sprial staircase the the front of the argyll room he opened the door slowly where he say a lady playing the paino with a cat on her lap, but then disappered after a second and the music stopped - no members of the campbell family have ever had any of theses sightings.  She then showed us our room which was the breadalbane room - this room had a double bed, and 3ft orginal antique bed and also loch view.  After unpacking etc we then went for dinning and had an amazing(there is a recommed list of places to eat in the castle).  We then returned to the laird's parlour where we could relaxed and have some complimentry cherry and chocolates.  After watching televison we decided to retire to bed, but was a bit freeked out by all the ghost stories but eventually got to sleep lol.  The next morning we were up early to got our shower and got dressed and headed down to the basement of the castle where the breakfast room was.  The breakfast was superb and the breakfast included an aga cooked scottish breakfast, fresh fruit, cereal, yougurts and fruit jucie, tea/coffee and toast with jam and marmelade.   This was a perfect start to the morning and after breakfast before going back to the room we saw the dungeon then  took a walk around the grounds of the caste and the  beautiful gardens then got our luggage and packed the car up before we left I had to take pictures of the outside of the castle.  When we got home after the 2-3 hour drive back home we phoned the castle and booked up again for september.  Can't wait until we return :)
