Today was the first rainy day. The weather has been so great, but now its wet. I'd actually packed expecting the weather to be dismal like this all along, and until now, I'd been sweating it out all day every day. So I wasn't complaining.
The bus took us passed Loch Lommond - or more accurately said, the Loch Lommond mist - and Loch Awe, which gave us a glimpse of a castle I think was Kilchurn Castle (not 100% sure). It was a pleasant drive, with an extraordinary river - although totally normal for this country.
The best thing about taking a bus is that you get to enter the city via the main road, whereas a train just takes you to the centre via the back of residential or industrial buildings, resulting in your total disorientation upon arrival.
I’m telling you, this town has character. Coming here was as new and as fresh as seeing Edinburgh
for the first time. There are streets everywhere that take you all
kinds of places. I don’t think any of them are straight. And the
buildings are classy - The
place were staying at has this awesome view over the bay.
I can watch
the ferries come and go; not to mention the sunsets here are
priceless - I don't know where to start; this whole place - its intriguing, relaxing, stunning, a manageable size, scenic, charming...familiar. You name it, it's there. And the T.I.C is aware of all this - they also know how to rip you off for internet access, don't even bother checking it out - their computers are 15 years old. Instead, there’s an internet cafe called Fancy That, which
also has a lot of unusual and weird stuff to buy. It's up the other end of town and its also a great place to browse, even if you're not there for the internet.... Some people really have interesting imaginations.
Fish and chips for tea fits in all too well with the seaside town. They cost a lot but are very nice. Its very enjoyable on a calm night to eat them in the bay, with the ferries and fishing boats coming and going as the night sets in.
One thing that cannot go unmentioned is the view on offer from the hill. Many B&Bs line the top and all offer 10 star views of the bay and nearby islands. But when sunset comes, the bay view is transformed into something totally unique. Something spectacular, awesome, majestical, incredible, breathtaking unforgeable... That's the only way I can think to describe it! It really is something you have to see for yourself.
