Anita had a great time on safari so may not have been as glad to see me as I was to see her but we were both pretty excited about heading out to Zanzibar (again).  I know, its pretty greedy of me to go back there again, but what could I do... Anita wanted to go and she came all the way to visit me and I had to oblige! :-p

We got a flight from Kilimanjaro Airport with Precision airways. This time it was a proper plane, not like the tiny little adrenaline inducing thing Mark and I took.  An hour or so later we landed in Zanzibar and were met by a friend of Philip (Eco Tours) who had arranged all our accomodation.  Nungwi is about an hour and a half away from the airport in the north of the island, so I got to see a different part this time.

For four days we enjoyed the white sand and turquoise sea, plenty of fish for dinner and many cocktails.  Anita, I think was almost more excited about my birthday than me and managed to tell a lot of people!

On birthday morning we had to get up early for our snorkling trip. I opened my birthday cards, went to breakfast by the sea and came back to the hotel room to find beautiful red tropical flowers all over the bed and my towel in the shape of a hissing snake! I was most impressed and grateful to Anita for having a big mouth (sorry ITA!)

We had a fantastic boat ride, admiring all the lovely colours where the coral was underneath and feeling ever grateful for the shade - it was HOT!!  I was slightly concerned as I watched the groups of jelly fish float by but thought, no point worrying.  An American guy we met a couple of days ago showed me a nasty mark on his arm where a jelly fish had wrapped itself around and he said it hurt like hell and swelled up almost twice the size. But he was only one out of ten.  Anita and I joked that there were 14 of us on the boat so 1.4 of us would get stung.

Well as it turned out, after a pleasant half hour or so of bobbing about looking at the pretty fishes, I got a big birthday kiss right on the lips! As if that wasn't bad enough, as I tried to swim away from the nasty jelly fish with my lips burning, another one got me on the neck and again on the arm! Having seen what happened to the American guy I imagined my lip swelling up like botox gone horribly wrong.  All I could think about was how horrific I would look on my birthday night out and I might not even be able to enjoy my dinner.  Fortunately being for-warned meant that I came prepared with antihistamine tablets.  I popped two straight away and after about half an hour the burning sensations started to fade. Another guy got some nasty marks on his side... so I guess between us we made up the 1.4 or lets just round it up to 2.  At least I got a birthday kiss I suppose... Think I would have preferred one from Mark though!

We got on pretty well with a French girl and a German guy on the boat so they joined us for dinner at an unusual restaurant in a kind of tree house where you sit on cushions at a large, low table with people you've never met.  Food took ages but my fresh tuna with tropical fruits was pretty tasty.

In the evening we hung out at the only place to go... Chorlos.  Again Anita's loud mouth did the trick and the barman gave me a very special chocolatey cocktail with pineapple and banana on top, to the envy of everyone else! It was strong enough to make me stay at the bar until 3am watching all the local men attempt to win Anita over and to have me dancing in the sand. Must've been a good night!
