Ryan:

Yesterday was our first day in New York. We did a lot of things with Aunt Nancy and Lisa as our tour guides. Actually, we got tickets for a double-decker tour bus and rode around town on the top of the bus with a real tour guide telling us about what we were seeing, and giving us a history of a lot of things that we saw. The first guide we had was very good at what he did, but the second (we switched buses) was saying the stupidest things, like, “In the late 1800’s, William Seward was shot in a duel with the vice-president of the United States. The vice president also shot somebody in our recent history, but no one was hurt this time.” Lisa was in the back of the bus, and every time the tour guide would say something like that, she would have hysterics along with a bunch of other young couples. It was most amusing. We got back to the hotel and went to sleep after midnight, and were awakened this morning (5-13-06) at 4:30 by a fire alarm. Apparently, there was a fire on the thirty-fourth floor, and then the alarm malfunctioned and would not stop going off, and now at 6:30, it is still going off. It is very annoying, and I am very tired. I didn’t get any sleep after five o’clock, so I just got up and took my shower. And this is a four star hotel in New York!! Today we are supposed to go see the Statue of Liberty.

We went to New York on Friday. When we got there we went to Times Square and walked around looking at shops. We got a caricature made of the three of us. The artist was awesome at drawing caricatures. We then went to another artist who made spray paint pictures. We watched him do a scene of New York and we bought it. The streets in Times Square had no lights as the signs were so bright. Amazingly enough, Times Square was very busy at night. It was bustling with people and activities. There were many other artists as well but we did not buy any of their paintings but they were awesome too.

Later we went to Toys R Us. They had a large indoor ferris wheel. We looked around for a while and on the third floor we was a large t-rex that looked and sounded real. We went to Build a Bear and American Girl Place. At American Girl I bought a purse that holds my American Girl doll and has a false bottom to hold accessories. We also went to a Broadway show of Beauty and the Beast. The show was amazing as it had many songs and special effects. The actors were very good singers as well. They sang many beautiful songs.

Lisa bought Katie and I a program and we each got a rose to represent the rose in the show. I liked the part best where the beast turned into a prince. It was very quick and I wondered how they did it. We all enjoyed the Broadway show very much. It was the highlight of Mother’s Day.

Love,

Amanda

p.s. After the Broadway show we had to rush for the train.

In New York we saw the Statue of Liberty. It was very pretty. I enjoyed the museum in the base of the statue. The first thing we saw in the museum was the original statue’s torch. On the big ferry boat we then went to Ellis Island. We ate lunch there and we enjoyed the shade of the tree we ate under.

We came back to New York. And then we rode on a double-decker tour bus and we really enjoyed seeing all the pretty lights. We came home about midnight after seeing the Empire State Building. We went to the highest place that we could go and we looked out and saw almost the whole city lit up with lights. It was very cold but I enjoyed the view.

On Sunday we went to the pretty St. Patrick’s Cathedral. We also went to Build a Bear and I used seven dollars of my souvenir money to buy a fairy hat, a wand, and a heart necklace. Then we went to the American Girl Place and I bought a set of twin Bitty Babies. I bought their double-decker stroller and I bought their play outfit. I have saved up over a year to buy these special dolls. They were blond and brunette dolls but I chose the blond because I wanted the dolls to look like me.

Love,

Katie
