I arrived at Louis Armstrong Airport at night on Sunday 2/26, otherwise known as Dimanche Gras. I was more interested in spending time with my host/boyfriend Jellyroll then and saved the partying til the next day.
Lundi Gras ("Fat Monday") was packed with plans and working on celebrating. Jellyroll and his neighbor were throwing a costume party in the evening that was to lead to the streets, to a big night parade. So in the daytime, we worked on costumes and cleaning up the place. Friends came over and worked on their costumes, creating a very positive, creative atmosphere.
New Orleans is so laid back and people are so easygoing, more than any other city I've been to. It was heartwarming to see that, despite the devastation hurricane Katrina caused, people here were determined to live life to the fullest.
