After we left the mainland, and the Beach House, we took a bus and ferry ride to Nananu-i-ra, an island just off the coast. We called ahead to a backpacker hostel, recommened by other travelers, and made reservations. Once we got there on the last ferry of the night, they seemed to have lost our reservations. Luckily, they found some space and we paid extra for our own little bungalow with a kitchen, right next to the beach. They were building a big dorm for backpackers while we are there, so I'm sure now there is plenty of accomodation.

Although there is a beach right outside our door, we learned that just on the other side of the island (up a hill and down a path with goats and cows wandering freely), we would get to "One Beach." One beach is probably the most beautiful beach I have ever seen, completely deserted and untouched. It's lined with palmtrees and the ocean is protected by a reef, so it's pretty calm. We snorkled and hung out by ourselves the first day. Our last day there, we kayaked around the island to get to this beach. We joked about how crazy it seemed to kayak in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with sharks and sea snakes all around. But the ocean was so calm and we were so close to land, we were hardly in any danger.
