There are some blog entries that just don't fit into the usual flow of the narrative and Thebe Camp in Namibia is one of them. For reasons which I still have to fathom, we reversed much of our journey from Botswana back to Namibia to go to the Thebe camp site and all I can say is that the route planners must have had a thing about the camp site.
It's a most peculiar place.
On the accommodation side of things, no matter how much you enjoy camping in the rain and paddling around in cess pits, there are some room upgrades you've just got to do. Thebe Camp is one of them. The site has some really nice tree huts with big verandahs, open air en suite bathrooms, no chance of ground flooding and great views of the river. Not the cheapest upgrade we'd done but we forced ourselves to take one.
Loads of space, nice beds, an almost watertight roof, bracing running water where it was meant to be and mostly successful mosquito nets. Wonderful.

The facilties were something else again. It's the first place I've ever stayed which has a recommended toilet tour, his and hers loos, a literal throne room overlooking the river and a caged swimming pool in the Kavanga river to protect the swimmers from hippos and crocs (but not from giant spiders).
Weird!
