We decided to stay overnight at the Renaissance Hotel at Heathrow to ensure we had an easy start for our journey. I'd forgotten that I stayed here around twenty years ago and was traumatised for life when I got locked out of the swimming pool and had to walk through the main reception in my swimming trunks. That wouldn't have been so bad but the woman at the reception desk told me that people did it all the time!

Substantial brownie points for British Airways for their online check-in service. We knew 24 hrs in advance where we were going to be sitting on the plane and the bag drop off was a cinch. Brilliant.

Substantial boos to BAA for only having one security check in person per four million people going through Heathrow.

Brownie point also to the Stanley Hotel for having the taxi at the airport to meet us as arranged. It makes life substantially easier when you turn up and there is someone there to meet you.
