Got up very early this morning so that I could hike up to the International Date Line and see the first sunrise in the world. It was a short 10 min walk uphill. It was very quiet and peaceful and the sunrise was pretty. I could stand on the Date Line with half of me in today and half in tomorrow. Then it was back down the hill to pack and have breakfast. Some nice coconut pancakes with bacon. Soon I was off to the airport.
Again the plane was on Fiji time and running almost an hour late, but I was in no hurry to leave Fiji. I was close to tears all morning at the thought of leaving.
In Nadi it was raining and I almost forgot to go and collect my bag. had to have the Air Fiji staff go and get it from the back where they had put it away since I hadn't claimed it for almost 1/2 hr after we landed.
I did my souvenir and gift shopping and spent all of my Fiji money, except for a little change. I then realized that I hadn't eaten. Now I had to wait until I was on the plane for some food and I knew I would be overcharged for that. It was $9 for a TV dinner sized mushroom and chicken risotto and $3 for tiny bottle of orange juice.
We had a very rough descent into Brisbane so I was really not feeling well by the time we landed. Waited and waited for my bag in Brisbane but it never came. The lady said to report it in Sydney. I was a bit worried about that since we would be one of the last planes into Sydney that night at 11:30. So I was feeling sick, my bag was missing and when I walked outside to the train the weather was grey, cold and raining. I was not a happy traveler. I decided to catch the next plane back to Fiji!
Not really. It was onto the domestic airport. I had some Sprite and Dramamine to calm my stomach. That did the trick so I had a chicken burger that made me feel gross again. By the time we boarded our plane it was 8pm. Again about a 1/2 hr late. Must still be on Fiji time! I slept restlessly on the flight to Sydney. The 2 girls next to me were quite loud.
I was groggy when we arrived at Sydney but was happy to see my bag was there! I walked straight to the train and went to Central. The hostel I was staying at was close to Central Station. It took me a bit longer to get to the hostel because I took off walking in the wrong direction first and had to double back once I realized where I was.
I checked into the hostel, found my room, set my clock and fell into bed. By this time it was almost 1am
