We're off to germany today, seems like we're ripping through countries at a mile a minute!
first stop this morning was at at one of the many concentration camps situated around here.
it was rather moving,seeing what some many people had to go through, not all that long ago.
from there we headed to our lunch stop again at an auto grill... just outside of mondsee,
from there they decided to make a quick detour into the town itself, where we got to see the church in which maria, and captain von trapp got maried (in the sound of music movie) and also the street in which the kids are all dressed in their play clothes and climbing trees..
was excited...
many others weren't...
didn't help that they played 30mins of sound of music songs before we got there to hype us up... lol
one asked "why am i going to take a picture of a church that was in some movie i haven't seen?" and the response was "think of all the other things you've taken pictures of that you have no idea about"
they promptly got out and took a token picture!
from there we headed straight to munich, with a quick stop just before the border.
arrived in munich about 4pm, just as it was getting dark (surprise surprise),
carried all ourbags etc into the hotel and had to carry it all up the stairs..
germans don't like lifts it seems....
is it mean to laugh at people trying to lug suitcases up stairs...love my pack...
headed out straight away to sample some night life of munich.
after a quick walk up the main street we headed to the Hofenburg beer hall!
for what else.... but the beer!
had pork again... seems that the first half of the tour was chicken, and now we're on to pork!
got stuck into out steins of beer.... nothing like coming face to face with 1 L of beer!
poor anita had about 200mls... and was gone, i'm talking falling off the chair gone!
it was rather amusing...
abby was the game one getting a pork knuckle... and it was a sight to be seen
managed to down my stein... not being the biggest beer fan of all i was impressed!
didn't come close to the two south africans that managed to skull 3 straight, and drink 6L each in the 90mins we were there...impressive... but they're machines!
didn't spend all that much time there as the bus was leaving at 9:30pm.... we could have stayed longer and made our own way back...but our hotel was so far ou of town it was going to cost 100 euros just to get back....
so i think the majority of people caught the bus.
mel managed to mount a painted cow and live to tell the tale...
we'd been warned about touching the painted cows, and that if you were seen leaning or touch it, you could be help in jail over night....
lol got a classic photo of her riding it!(funny thing is she didn't remember doing it the next day!)
only had one chucker on the bus, and somehow.... dave managed in his drunken state... to keep the bus clean!
and paul who will not live it down now!
(dave also had no recolection or the nigths events the next day...)
onwards to switzerland tomorrow...
