This is the big event, the first thing Ralph wanted to do when he came to Europe – go to the Munich Oktoberfest. And here we are. To make things even more special, our granddaughters Jodi and Kylee, joined us here for the week. "Over the moon" doesn’t even come close.

The weather hasn’t been all the great but our spirits have not been dampened. REB and I arrived a day early and walked around the fest grounds to get our bearings and as soon as the girls got off the plane yesterday we headed over there. It really is a huge party. The people who seem to have the most fun are the ones in native dress. So today the girls and I got outfitted properly. What a hoot! We had no idea even how to shop for these clothes or even what to call then. (Dirndl dresses with blouse and apron.) First we had to figure out what our European sizes were and find dresses to fit. Then we had to choose a blouse (tiny little things) and an apron that would complete the look. How do you think we did?

When we got to the grounds today, it made a huge difference. Several people commented that Americans would take the trouble to dress in Bavarian costume. We had a great time.

Finally, after finding a few beer halls we didn’t know were there yesterday (and sampling the product, of course), REB and I came back to the hotel. The girls are still out there and having a great time. They have a subway ticket and know that they only travel one stop before getting off. Our hotel is a few yards from the station.

They just knocked on our door to say that they made it back and to tell us how much fun they had.

So now we’re all off to dreamland.

All our love until next time,

Patricia, I've always wanted to go to Oktoberfest, barely missed a few years ago - enough to see them setting up the tents. It's wonderful that your granddaughters could visit. I continue to live vicariously through you and Ralph and hope his Inogen One is treating him well. Sincerely, Christina at Inogen

Grandma Pat,I just showed Dallas and Brian the pictures and read the story to Dallas. I asked him which outfit he liked the best of you three dressed up and he said "Grandma Pat's, because it would fit me and because red is his my favorite color."

You gals look great! Pat, your face looks so thin. Travel seems to suit you. Now, I just can't bring myself to attend Oktoberfest in Appleton. Nothing would compare to your experience. You have taken some wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing. LUVU
