We got up very early and I drove along way(while Colette slept!!) to see Mount Cook before the cloud covered it up.  It was spectacular as we approached Mount Cook Village and got great views of the great giant.  As we approached the village the cloud was coming in and we decided to go on the Hooker Valley walk then and there as rain and wind was predicted for the afternoon.

On the walk we crossed a couple of swing bridges, which was quite hairy as the gale force winds began to arrive! We  walked along a valley up to one of Mount Cook glaciers  where icebergs were floating in the lake at the bottom of the glaciers.

After the walk we went for coffee in a cafe with a view of Mount Cook and met a guy who had been working in Antarctica for the last 13 months!! Then made it back to the youth hostel for Neighbours!

The following day we headed SouthWest . We stop off at lake Tekapo to see the famous Church of the Good Shepherd, which was in a stunning location that instead of a stained-glass window it had plain glass so you could see the view of the mountains.

We spent the night at Glenorchy ( another place famous for the Lord of the Rings). The drive from Queenstown was amazing, we even tried to make it up to Paradise but the road kept going and going, and we were running out of petrol so had to turn back to Glenorchy !

A stunning little village on the side of a lake with amazing views of the mountains. I met a photographer there called Bob Beresford who takes the photos for the New Zealand postcards that I might have sent some of you. I spent some time talking to him about photography and he looked over my camera and informed me that it was quite cheap ( which I knew already really ) Apparently the way forward is with a medium format camera !

A very eccentric character who talked extremely fast in jargon language but he was certainly entertainment for the evening and distracted us form the dead cockroaches that we found in a well below average campsite ( If you go to Glenorchy DO NOT stay in the campsite !!)
