Arrived in Moscow 7am on the overnight train from St Petersburg, shared with a young russian couple, thought we were gonna have two big army guys but luckily they went to the next cabin.
It had been 23 years since i was last in moscow (gavin) and was looking forward to see how much it had changed and changed it had. Gone are the Lada's and days of communism and in are the advertising hoardings, neon lights. Red square has GUM a big shopping centre running at the side selling Gucci and Prada, I was expecting it but was still a little disappointed on how much it had changed.
Our hostel had water problems ie the flat upstairs was pouring into the hostel so we got a free night here as they turned the water off. We met a guy from seattle and a austrian couple in the hostel and drank the vodka in the freezer that people had left and topped it off with the absinthe i brought. The next day a bit red eyed we headed out to red square and the kremlin, St Basils is still as impressive even though it made us think of willy wonka when you looked at it. We didn't bother with Lenin's tomb as the queues were massive, I had seen him and gail wasn't bothered about seeing a dead body but we did have 2 goes at getting in the kremlin and succeeded after a 3hr queue.
The metro here is stunning, chandeliers and mosaics but Gail nearly got chopped in half by the metro barriers as she thought you could walk through when it was open.
Overall Moscow is not as pretty as St Petersburg and the people are not very smiley but still a great place for few days.
