From Kijabe we traveled by train to Mombasa on the coast of Kenya. We left on a Friday evening from Nairobi and traveled all night and arrived the following morning. After a quick Matatu ride from the station we checked in at the Voyager, our hotel for the week. We were there to provide childcare while the AIM missionaries held a conference. We ended up watching 22 kids ranging from age 8 to 11. The hotel offered many activities and we had a blast while the parents sat through meeting after meeting. The hotel consisted of 3 different swimming pools, sail boats, catamarans, kayaks, water bikes, glass bottom boats, and unlimited drinks and food all included. The majority of the day was spent in the water due to the extreme heat and humidity. Thanks to the help of 6 wonderful high schoolers from RVA, the week went smoothly and quickly.
The highlight of the week was our glass bottom boat out to the barrier reef. With the water being in the mid 80's and lots of sea life, the trip was excellent both for the kids and for the staff. Our week ended with a reservation only dinner with Ryan and Heather and then it was off to the train station for our ride back to Nairobi. We were all ready to return to the cool Kijabe climate.
