I am now officially one hour nearer home – I have entered Mountain Time so am only 7 hours behind now. I left Spokane late this morning after having a quick look around the town and as soon as I had headed out of the town I spotted a couple of signs for taxidermists – lovely. Not quite sure if they stuff bears or not but I didn’t slow down or stop to find out!

I headed north and crossed the border into Idaho. Idaho is a really beautiful state with lots of lakes and mountains. There seems to be a lot of logging going on in this part of the world as there were lots of trucks with big tree trunks on them, and also the air smelt really nicely of pine for most of the day which was lovely as I had the top down on Thelma. I stopped in a town called Sandpoint for lunch which was quite small but really pretty. It had some cool little craft shops and made a welcome change from the usual small but dodgy towns I have often driven through so far on the trip – there was not a fast food chain in sight in the centre and people kept saying hello to me as I walked around which was nice although a bit disconcerting!

I then headed on further east through the Cabinet Mountains into Montana which is where I hit Mountain Time. I didn’t listen to the radio today – I managed to find an empty station all day so could indulge in Erasure, ABBA and Madonna to my heart’s content! Thankfully got a day off from Country and Jesus.

Montana is also very beautiful so far and I drove past lots of ranches in the valleys between mountains. Hopefully it will continue to have good scenery as I am in this state for another 5 days before heading down to Yellowstone. I am now in Missoula which doesn’t seem particularly interesting although I have noted that it has a large Old Navy which always attracts my attention! Montana from first glance appears to have more money than other states I have passed through as the houses seem larger and better kept and the towns too. We shall see…

Distance travelled today – 279 miles.

Bearwatch – 0 so far!
