Today we were off on a day trip to Milford Sound, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of the Fiordland National Park. The trip included a 2 hour cruise through the fiords and out into the Tasman Sea, passing cascading waterfalls and snow capped mountains – almost justifying the 5 hr coach journey it took to get us there. We also met yet another friendly Canadian by the name of Aaron. Out with the old, in with the new!

The highlight of my day was at a perfect moment when Dan and I were alone on the front of the boat, and he said he’d bought me a present. My heart was pounding as I took the small grey jewellery box from his hands and opened it tentatively. Inside was a beautiful jade necklace (the national stone of NewZealand), carved into a triple twist crossover design, representing a bonding of friendship and two lives becoming one for all eternity. Not quite a proposal, but pretty close!
