Well thats 50 days on the go!  Woo Hoo!   Kind of a landmark I suppose!

The plan of action for today....head for Milford Sound!  So we headed off fairly early, about 10.30ish, and started the 4 1/2 hour drive to Milford.   Again, being the passenger, I have the fortunate position of being able to sit there staring out the window at the amazing scenery, with the occational request to stop so I can get some snaps!

The trip was pretty uneventful  until we reached the Homer Tunnel, just before Milford Sound.  The tunnel is a one lane tunnel, so you have traffic lights at either end, where we had to sit and wait for a few minutes.   I was suprised to see what looked like Parrots attacking the car infront, so naturally I had to get out to take a photo!!   So, yeah, the parrots saw me, and headed towards our car, where they proceeded to start ripping the aerial off, and pull the rubber lining out!!  I thought it was hilarious, and instead of stopping them I just tried to get in a good position to take a snap of our car being attacked.  They obviously have no fear of humans, cos the little sod wouldn't f*ck off once Bobby reminded me that the top of the car wasnt covered on our insurance!!

In the end we just drove off with the Parrot (they're actually a type of parrot called the Kea, I later learned, and they're the only type of Alpine parrot in the world.  They attack cars out of  boredom apparently, and they enjoy it!!  Parrot ASBO's!)   still on the roof.  I think it fly off pretty quickly, but I can't be sure how long we were driving with the parrot in tow!

Anyhow, we arrived in Milford a short while later, after stopping at a Chasm (originally named.  'The Chasm!').

I was expecting there to be a town there, but NO!  Theres a bar, a tourist information booth and a hotel and thats !....Oh and a bloody AMAZING view.   Your at the end of a fiord, with the cliffs just dropping into the sea, with Waterfalls falling straight down off the cliffs!  Bloody lovely!!   Luckily  for us, although it had been raining all bloody day, it cleared up just before we got there!  I really wanted to do the cruise down the fiord, but I bulked at the price, so I had to make do with gawping from the end of the fiord.

So we went looking for somewhere to stay. Theres a hostel just outside milford, but they charge $28 a night, which is a bit pricey....but when your the only hostel for 200km I suppose you can charge what you like!!   So we made do with getting a camping pitch in the woods, which costs $15 a night....  much better!

We chilled out for a while after setting up the tent, then headed to the bar in Milford for a pint and a game of pool, then headed back to the campground later on and chilled for a bit longer.

We had a bit of difficulty finding the tent when we were ready for bed, the forest was pitch black, and us being the most unprepared campers in the world dont even have a torch!!   Luckily we have mobile phones which just about cast enough light!

So yeah that was our day in Milford, followed by a cold and uncomfatable night....but hey at least we saved $13!
