Portrait

We decided, about 2 hours after meeting each other, that dropping everything and traveling around the world would be something we should do together. Three weeks later we were married. One month later we moved into a shiny remodeled apartment in New York. Two months later we adopted an adorable kitten named Robot, who quickly became the most famous kitten in the world.

Upon delivering the news of our intentions to friends and family we were met with tremendous support, skepticism, doubt, and a little jealousy. Many people wondered how we could drop it all and set off without a care in the world. To us, the idea of owning a house in the suburbs with 2.5 kids and an SUV was as foreign to us as our idea was to them.

Three months later, our 9-5 jobs, overcrowded sidewalks, and the occasional subway stabbing reminded us that we wanted to escape. Within a year we had two planned stops booked, sold all of our belongings and found ourselves relaxing on an endless beach ready to begin our journey in Costa Rica (after HOURS of diverted flights, layovers, bus trips, and miles of walking).

The intention of this blog is to provide hopeful inspiration, education, and a little entertainment to our readers. Here you’ll find details of our exploits along with photos, drawings, as well as ramblings about wildlife, environment, and social challenges of being in a foreign land.

Thank You for Reading, Matt and Kate
