Review of The Nunnery

Now this is a hostel with character! Formerly a real nunnery it retains its stained glass windows and great old wooden floors and fixtures - but with clean and welcoming rooms and facilities. Situated right opposite the Victoria National Musuem (free internet!!) and right outside a tram stop it was well located. The staff were very helpful and although at AUD$28 per person for a bed in a 6 person dorm it was a shock to the wallet (after being in dirt-cheap Asia for 4 months) it was good value for Melbourne. The common room, kitchen and laundry were also useful. Two small gripes - the nearest supermarket was a good 15 minute walk away and the internet pay kiosks were poky and too expensive.
