So I can maybe handle 1 more blog entry... it was a great day.
We woke up refreshed and checked out again. Tonight we have a regular dorm room as everyone is going home. Both Krystal and I have to miss work on Monday but its not a big deal. This is the Australian Open Final.. work can wait.
We got up and went back to the train station to pick up our bags. We had been too tired the night before. We hung out.. went on the internet... and then took the tram back to the city. We were so excitied. Because we did not have a flag we were forced to make one. We took a towel that Mrs Neston had given us to keep cool and had a photo shop print a maple leaf on it. It didn't look great but it would have to do.
Both of us were super nervous to see if the tickets were there. Initially nothing was there but eventually the tickets showed up. We were still worried that it might be 2 session but our tickets were good for the whole night! Our seats were amazing.. at the baseline.. 15th row. Pretty much as good as you could get. If you are too close to the court.. or the center.. you have to move your head to watch the point. From an angle a little higher you can watch perfectly.
I'm sure you all know by now.. but Nestor and Elena won the match in straight sets. It was so fun. Raspy kid and his sister also got free tickets... and another Canadian sat behind us. We cheered the whole game and everyone in the place hated us. "You are a legend" "You're so good its unbelievable""Nestor, Elena" "Viva la Canada" all led by the Rasby maniac. Two people called out calling us tiresome and annoying.. but really we didnt care. Nestor thanked his "annoying but helpfull crew" during the acceptance speach. Krystal hugged his wife and he came over to thank us for the support... it was so good.
Next... the finals. Again.. we still had the amazing seats. In our section.. some girl called Australian Open Woman's Champion Serena Williams... her mom... Guy Sebastian (Australian Idol)... trophy presentors.. Federer's family and coach...a whole bunch of Australian celebrities that I don't know about. Lets just say you needed to know someone to sit where we did. As was expected Federer beat Gonzalez of Chile in straight sets. It was amazing. The shot making by both players.. the crowd.. the trophy presentation.. Its going to be tough to top. Roger makes it look so easy... the guy is unreal.
We walked back to the tram knowing our Australian open 2007 was over. It was unbelievable. The hype around the tournament is so good.. with everyone asking each other which match you had seen. Getting tickets to the final was like having a player give you game 7 tickets for the playoffs...
We went home.. and crashed.
A quick blurb about the train home... so long.. 13 hours during the day. They served without a doubt.. the worst spaghetti on the planet.. Krystal got a migraine... it was horrible.
