“He was laughing so hard you couldn't see his eyes because his cheek fat was pushed up over them and he was crying!” |
We didn't spend too much time in Melbourne - only about 3 days, but from what we saw we really liked it. The downtown core is really neat. They have a huge big screen tv like in Times Square in New York right in the centre with a lot of trendy cafes and restaurants scattered all around the place. They also have a rather neat looking train station, which you will find in any picture postcard for the city of Melbourne. It's a really nice yellow colour so it really stands out from the rest of the area. One really weird thing about Melbourne is that in order to make a right hand turn you have to get into the left hand lane. Now figure that one out. You can't go in the middle where you would normally go to turn right because then you would block the city trams so instead you pull over to the left and wait for an opening. It was very difficult to figure out and to be honest I am not even sure the locals knew what they were doing. Needless to say we did get a few horns....
Anyway, while we were in Melbourne the comedy festival was on so we decided to take in a show. The name of the comedian was Akhmal Saleh. We got to sit in the front row too, after showing up over an hour early. Of course you know what happens to people in the front row at a comedy show they tend to get heckled. We definitely got our share of that. The funniest part of the whole thing though was this one particular segment in which Akhmal was going on about the pope - not in a disrespectful way - but in a hilarious way nevertheless. I looked over at Michael and I have never seen Michael's face contorted in such a way before. He was laughing so hard you couldn't see his eyes because his cheek fat was pushed up over them and he was crying! Just writing about this I laugh to myself again, because seriously he looked so funny. He was really enjoying it!
Other than the comedy festival we spent some time walking around the Yarra River which is really beautiful - reminds me of the Saskatchewan River - and getting lost trying to find our accommodation in the "Big City". It was a great time in Melbourne.
