Mbarara is one of the bigger towns of Uganda, but if you only visit Uganda for a short while this is one of the places I would choose not to go. When I was in Uganda Mbarara was known for fostering politicians and other VIPs as well as being the town of dairy products.
On the way to Mbarara you cross a typical tourist sight where you cross from the northern to the southern hemisphere… Here is a picture opportunity of you standing with on leg in each hemisphere. You also find a few souvenir shops here, but if you decide to buy anything here you need to know that it is much more expensive than most other places.
Mbarara itself has not a lot to offer. There is a main street of which you can walk in about 10 minutes and a gas station where the youth hang out. I stayed in Mbarara for two three days and two nights and I must say that my biggest experience in this time was at the taxi station when I was about to leave where I saw two Masaiis… They were looking with curiosity at me and me at them… So in the end we could do nothing but sent each other a big smile.
