Front Street is a very pretty spot to stroll along as it is right by the water. It is about a 6-7 block radius filled with shops, restaurants and art galleries. All of the stores more or less carry the same things with slight variations. Jewellery - most of the jewellery stores are run by Asian people and they are very friendly to non-Asians in greeting you and helping you out but rather ignore you if you're one of them. We didn't care as we didn't want them harassing us anyways. We seem to have gotten the same level of non-service at every store so we figure they're all linked via family connections. They all seem to be offering "huge discounts" but in actuality, they just inflated their prices and slash them when you bargain with them. Maybe they don't greet us fellow Asians as they know we'll play the game and haggle the prices down. I would suggest you going to Na Hoku instead. They are the oldest jewellers on the island and have launched stores throughout North America. They are the original designers of the gold flip flops that were all the rage. They do not discount any prices but they are reasonable to begin with so you don't feel as if you got a raw deal. In my opinion, their designs are nicer and the craftsmanship is much much better. Rod bought me pretty white gold hibiscus earrings and a matching necklace. It is now my favorite piece of jewellery. It kinda looks like the Tiffany open heart. Clothing - nothing that caught my attention. The usual run of the mill souvenir t-shirts. ABC Store - Kinda like a 7-11 with your drinks and snacks but they also carry souvenirs and a wide array of stuff. Prices are reasonable and you can pretty much do most of your gift shopping here. However, check out the prices at Costco first as some things are much cheaper at Costco.
