Holly and I have been working our magic and slowly we are making sure that everyone travels over to Perth to visit. Honor and Roly were next in line. They spent 5 days with us before travelling up the coast in their trusty camper van, Sponge Bob! A road trip was in order so we set off to see the Southern Ocean. Holly and I slept in the back of Bob (a great way to travel) while Roly and Honor were amazing in every way and drove us down to Albany. We arrived at the campsite and Holly and I had our first experience sleeping in a tent, in winter! Lets just say we didn’t bring enough blankets!

Holly and I woke up bright and early and went down to the beach to get our first view of the Southern Ocean. We even saw a group of grannies boogie boarding in the freezing cold…girls, that’s us in 60 years! Once Honor and Roly were up we walked along the beach to Emu Point and took in the panoramic views from the lookout tower.

We spent the afternoon driving through the countryside to Pemberton and stopping off at the Tree Top Walk along the way. A 600m ramp rises from the floor of the valley and gently rises into the giant tingle tree canopy. We also walked along the boardwalk through the red tingle trees. Some of the trees are 16m in circumference and disease has led to them being hollow in the centre…you can walk through the tree! Honor and I are not one to miss a photo opportunity so watch out for the slide show later!

The next day we spent at Cape Leeuwin and driving through the vineyards of Margaret River. Cape Leeuwin is the most south-westerly point of Australia and the meeting place for the Southern Ocean and Indian Ocean. We climbed up the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and saw whales in the distance. We visited the Bootleg Brewery and brought local ale to drink whilst watching the sunset at Yallingup. The sunset was gorgeous but unfortunately Honor missed it as she feel over and cut her hand…trust the doctor!

On our third night in the tent Holly had a genius idea and we put hot bricks in our tent. I know it sounds crazy…don’t worry they were in saucepans and surprisingly gave off a lot of heat. Holly and I both slept right through for the first time.

Our last day of our road trip was spent on the beach and then driving back to Perth before Honor and Roly set of for their travels. The weekend was perfect and I loved every second.
